Hi everyone, I picked up a nice looking 150gal on craigslist for $75 this past weekend. The only problem is, the plastic horizontal trim on the bottom front and top back is cracked. The braces on top (front to back) are fine, though.

Do i need to somehow brace the tank from left to right? The glass is thick and tank is solid, just wondering how much support that plastic actually offers.

I have a few ideas as to how id brace it, but would be open to any other suggestions if people have done this before.

Seems like that part is not the essential structure of the tank if I am correctly figuring what part your describing.
Does the tank hold water without any leaks?
Id say the hot glue or silicone those parts back and go with it.

I currently am using a 125 that also has a cracked lower plastic frame. It does not cause me any problems and seems to be a common trait of the major department store tanks.

So there you have it, Allen has one just like it and hes using it with no problems.
I would just glue or silicone it back for asthectics and use it.
I have an opportunity to get a used 180 that leaks and Im thinking of re-sealing it and trying it out.
Anyone have opinions on resealing tanks, on if its worth it and it will actually work?

cjenkfam, if its a glass tank its quite easy and well worth re silicone-ing it. I have 8 or so thanks that I have resealed without any issues.

I have a 180 with crack frame and all I did was put some Gorrilia glue on it just to play it safe. It was cracked about 3 years ago with no glue on it but when I moved it one time it cracked a little more so I glued the thing and then the last lime I move it the cracked frame held up nice but I messed up and put a chip the size of a quater on it. I thought it might leak but where my tanks are if that happened it would be to big of a problem if 180 gallons went on the floor. So I filled it up and waited for water to come out, never has and If moved it one more time since then with no problems.

I think I will try and get that 180 then for a steal and re-seal it. I think I can get for about $50-$75 since its leaks. A really nice bargin if I can get it to hold water.
A nice new home for the Kapampa!! hehe.
