First off let me start by wishing all you Frontosa keepers a Happy New year and prosperous fish keeping throughout 2016  !

Cant believe I've been keeping Frontosa for 13 years now and most of the current ones I have are all nearly 10 years old!

I'd like to start a discussion on what KH or GH is best to keep water parameter's. KH is something I have to admit I'm very new to, as I said in another post recently I've been keeping fish for over 30 years but never had a problem. After a recent PH crash down to the 6 mark ( didn't last long, but neither did 2 fish:?) a friend of mine tested my KH at around 3.4 and told me it was very low?

Need some advice on this they are breeding and all and PH is currently stable at around 7.8 to 8.0.

any thoughts...

Here's a video of my oldest group of Burundi's.

Happy New year!!! :bananna :bravo :luck :party

Excellent Topic. KH is not something I have ever concerned myself with. Here in the valley the PH is our primary concern.

I use Bicarbonate of soda (1 teaspoon per 2 galls) and the same quantity of Epsom salt and this raises my
Gh and KH to around 16 which works for me. Get a bucket of source water, test the GH and KH, then add the bicarb/epsom slowly and keep testing until it is around 15-20. Raise it slowly in the tank with small water changes though.
