Hi just wanted some advice. I recently purchased 2 reasonably sized Clown Loaches 4-5 inches each. I've never owned them before, ever, not even in 30 years of keeping fish! I've noticed a lot of you guys keep them with Fronts especially Burundi's.
I have a very large colony of Burundi, 10 in all in a huge tank, all Front's are between 10 and 12 inches.
The loaches have been in the tank now around 2 months, at first they just hid, never came out of the rocks and rarely fed.
Now they are a lot bolder and regularly come out to feed and swim amongst the Fronts. It was just a cple of week back I noticed my biggest Alpha male which I have to say is absolutely fin perfect, his long flowing anal fin is well over 8 inches alone :P He's a real beauty. Anyway I noticed his anal fin and trailers had been all torn up, didn't look good, then I noticed the Clowns following behind the Frontosa's and nibbling on the trailers and even trying to tear strips off! I have to say this really annoyed me!!!

The Frontosa were all visibly annoyed by the this as was I! This has been going on a cple of weeks now and suffice to say the quality of their fins has dropped a lot

I guess my question is has anyone experienced this before with Loaches? And if so how to go about preventing it? The loaches are feeding so its not as if they are hungry  If I have to pull them I will but only bought them to add some more diversity to the tank...I know the fins will grow back in time but its not the point :x

Thanks all

There is an answer to this....pull the clowns out. I have always said my frontosa are what I raise. They come first. If anything causes them problems they go. I would be upset if the trailers on my Mikula were nipped and torn up. It takes a while to grow them. Out with the clowns!!

i love clowns and have never had your experience with them, but i have to agree with JRD. if they're causing problems they've gotta go.
