Aloha all,
I am Joe from Hawaii! I just acquired a colony of WC Girrabosa Kitumba Zaire's. That I have housed in a 125 Gal tank. The Alpha male is 10in and beta is 5in. with 5 females ranging from 5-7in. They never bred in there previous home and I would like to give the perfect conditions for my Fronts. Had for a week and a half and water quality seems good with the exception of PH which I slowly want to increase. 7.6 is what they spent most of there life in. but Iv'e been noticing shredded fins!! last night just on one, this morning on three! Females only. Appetite is good eating twice a day. going to do a 20%when I get home today. dose anyone know what is going on?

Aggression. sometimes when fish are moved and the water quality changes they immediately want to breed. If the females are not ready to breed the male may beat em up.

A few frayed fins is nothing to worry about, but keep an eye on them. If the male gets overly aggressive, especially if he is picking on just one then that is the time to get worried.
Btw, I think you mean Gibberosa.

Thanks the male is still aggressive. But equally aggressive to all. I did a 20% and adjusted the rocks so there are more places to hide. Hopefully this helps.

I notice some frayed fins on my Mikulas when my PH dips a bit. Not sure this is a cause but when I get the PH back to 8-8.2 it heals up. Salt at a water change will help. You moved an adult group to a new tank and you are seeing the alpha letting everyone know who is the boss. They are now in this new tank, rocks, sub straight, lights the whole thing is now new. It will most likely calm down when the pecking order is established.

If aggression doesn't calm down, it is not the prettiest solution, but 4inch diameter black abs pipes of about 8 inches long(white pvc is fine too) gives females places to hide, even if the male can get in, he has to slow down, and it gives them time to pop out the other side and ideally find another hiding place before he makes it through. Holding females love to hide out in them too.
