Hi.I am Mandy and just joined.I am new to this computer lark,so i am sorry if i get anything wrong! Anyway,I am awaiting the arrival of 6 mpimbwe blue frontosa on Wednesday.I was thinking of getting some kind of catfish to keep with them, maybe Pim Pictus or Synodontis.I have tried to research this idea on line, but everyone seems to contradict everyone else,so I am none the wiser. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Which,if either, would be o.k with Fronts? I have a 6ftx2ftx2ft tank.Thanks.

I have 2 multipunctatus with my frontosa and the do well together. Need to be careful as multipunctatus will steal eggs and replace with their own. So many people who breed them have dornier fish who don't know they are carrying in their mouth the multipunctatus eggs.

i love my pictus cats. i couldn't part with them after i sold my SA's until i tried them out with fronts. i'm happy to say they do just fine with my fronts. if your fronts are small enough to fit in their mouths you may have a different experience, and i'm sure they would make a snack out of any fry, but otherwise their great. i know many may disagree with my choice to keep them together, due to different ideal water parameters but it hasn't been an issue for me. synos and plecos are good choices also.

Catfish are very spiny.
frontosa are not the brightest fish.
they will mouth just about anything that lets them.

I keep adult multipunctatus with juvie frontosa, but seeing a $200 adult choke on a $25 synodontis is not really alot of fun, so i dont keep the cats with frontosa over 6 inches.

Pictus are even smaller.

And yes, all cats will steal eggs for a meal.

If you have adult frontosa maybe look into
Synodontis eupterus, they get a bit more mass than multis.

this is a Pimelodus sp., not sure if its P. pintado or P. maculatus.
i have caught a few but too big for me to bring back.
i want a tank of these guys. they get about 10 inches.
big enough that a frontosa wont eat them.

They seem to lose the yellow once get over 5 inches. I dont know if its a diet or environmental factor or if they simply lose the color with growth. So they end up being a silver fish with black spots.
