I should also point out that I double and triple dose the Stability. First couple days, I'll triple dose: 1 complete dose in the AM, 1 dose at lunch and 1 dose before going to bed. After the first few days I will back that down to two complete doses daily (spread out also). I will even continue dosing a couple extra days after Day 8.

Try to hold off your first water change as long as possible as you have started a new bacteria colony that needs more time to become a strong colony. Feed fish lightly to help keep nitrate levels down. If your nitrate levels start closing in on 40ppm, you'll have to give in and do a water change. If you can go two to three weeks before that first water change, that is ideal. After the first month, you can go back to the normal weekly water changes keeping those nitrates well below 20ppm.

Cheers,
Russ

Thanks Russ I'll keep all that in mind while setting up any new tanks. I'm definitely sold on any sechem product as well cannot be beat hands down. As a little thank you I took a few pics for you guys. I know it's small and nothing compared to some of your setups but I'm sure you will enjoy it anyways! Cheers

No comment on that Jets trash can

I'm a life long Blackhawks fan 8)

Glad to see big Buff and Andrew Ladd doing well with you guys - they were liked when they were on the Hawks.

Well after all I am from Winnipeg! The reference helped you guys that's for sure! My gf family all loves the hawks. And this might not be believable especially since it's over the Internet, but I played on toews line in 2 Allstar games and played against him many times :)

Now on a side note, I'm going to be adding calvus to my tank, how many should I add? any tips I hear you your the resident calvus man?

That's cool! I hear Toews is from there.

Regarding Altolamps: check out this article - it touches on startup #s. Let me know if you have any questions after you read it.

Great article, amazing pictures to go along with it. Your fish look amazing! But it was tailored more to the breeding aspect. Ok so I need some of those shells, and prob add a bit more rock to my tank. I'm getting these guys an inch- 1.5 inch long, soon only these guys will be able to enter my small cichlid stones, plus my fronts seem to only use the large ones anyway so I think that will help lots. So I guess I should buy 6 and hope for the right mix of male female. The supplier I buy from has many articles and pictures on there as well maybe you have met him, Spencer Jack?

Also thinking of getting these guys or brichardi as well to make for one amazing tank one day.

Hey Russ in your opinion would it be better to add 6 1" calvus or 2 4"calvus. Like I said my fronts are 2" and all these photos were from this week so they are still quite small. Or none at all and look for brichardi or those nice orange guys

Also those are wild caught calvus, red fin, gold head, I would love to have them.but I don't know if a month and a half old tank is suitable for wild caught fish. Damn so hard to decide!
