Hey everyone,

As most may know, ancistrus are cave breeders. The mother will stick the eggs to the side of a cave (or clay pot in my situation) and the male will fertilize and fan the eggs for approx. 5 days. Well, something happened this most recent spawn and the female stuck some eggs to the pot and some eggs to the aquarium floor. I took the eggs off the aquarium floor (they were stuck very well) and put them in a net hatchery. Well last night, I looked and they were actually hatching. The fry would start coming out of their eggs and would go straight up to the top of the water and did circles (like they didn't know how to swim yet) and then they would stick to the nearest surface. I watched around 20 or so hatch. They leave behind the clear covering that houses them. It was very cool to watch...wish I had got it on video.

Marc

Now that's way cool. Those are the experiences that made keep fish a joy. Marc you need to keep your camera by your tank at all times!!!

The pics are a little blurry, but for some reason, I couldn't get a clear shot...maybe because they're so small.

You can see a bunch huddled together in the top corner of the aquarium.

Thanks guys! It was really cool to watch. Definitely one of those things that makes fish keeping worth it!

Congratulations.. I've had several BN spwans and even fry swimming around with a pretty good sized egg sack but never witnessed a hatch. What type do you have? Mine are a common brown I guess. Next time grab up the cell and get some pictures..lol.. That's what I do. Not the best quality but we all like pictures.

Tito

Hey Tito,

I have brown/calico/and albino bushynose. Most fry end up being albino for me. If I ever get to witness it again, I'll definitely get a video. My phone has 1080p video, so it's pretty good quality too.
