Hey all,

I recently purchased a breeding trio of long-fin albino ancistrus. Can't wait for them to start spawning. I built a stand to hold 3, 20 gal long tanks. I have a breeding trio of short fin albinos and a trio of long fin albinos now both housed in 20 gal longs on this stand...I'm going to either put a 10 or 20 gallon on top for fry to be housed in. Hopefully lots of fry will be arriving soon!

Marc

yep.
they spawn like rabbits and convicts.
id unload the short fin trio, just keep a SF female to cross with your LF male to get SF's.
No other reason to dedicate a tank to them.

A ALF male with a ALF and ASF females will give you more fry than you can handle.

So you'd just keep the 1 LF male with 2 LF females and 2 SF females?

1 ALF male : 1 ALF female, 1 ASF female.

its easier to sell ALF vs. ASF.
depending on the genetics of the ASF female, you will either get...
all ASF fry, or 50% ALF/ASF.

The ALF + ALF should get you all ALF fry.

So if it was me, i'd keep 1 of each female.
you will have more ALF and ASF fry than you can get rid of.

you could keep 2 ALF females + 1 ASF female, but that would be a ton of fry.
Its cool at first, but then you have more fry than you can get rid of.

This is what you do.
tank 1
1 ALF male
1 ALF female
1 ASF female
1 Regular LF female

Tank 2
1 Calico LF male
1 Calico LF female
1 Calico SF female
1 Regular SF female

Those 2 tanks will give you every combination of ancistrus to sell.
ALF, ASF, RLF, RSF, CLF, CSF.
thats 6 types of fry from only 2 tanks.

You will not find that information any place else.

I have not seen them in person, just pix.
I have ranges of pale yellow to pale orange, he most likely just has a higher level of coloration in his, and most likely feeds alot of carrot, though i believe i have read the breeder claim no difference in food.
Same with the Green Dragon, a extra green version.

Ancistrus that people breed are a highly cross bred fish of many types of Ancistrus species.
