Hey guys,

I have 3 albino bushynose plecos. Currently I have them in with my fronts. But I'm thinking of moving them to a 20 gallon long and attempt to breed them. I've been reading up and lots of people say you will see them "pair up". How do I know when this happens? Do they just hang out alot, lol? Any info you know about how to get these little guys to breed would be greatly appreciated, thanks alot!

Marc

they don't pair up.
the male takes a cave and 1 or more females hang out around it.
the male has bristles on his face, the female usually do not.

you won't have to do anything.
if you have a male and female in the same tank, they will breed.
just like convicts or rabbits.

She had tons of them lol she just leaves them alone with a few caves in there tank and bam more fry then she knows what to do with. i went over there to get a few small ones i was going to even pay for them. She goes here take these gave me a adult male and a female for free.

The ratio should be fine, however sometimes male pleco's will fight to the death.
Bushynose seem to be the most peaceful of the pleco's but i have seen it happen with bushynose too.

Great, thanks for the info, I'll keep an eye on them. I have a local fish store that sells albinos quite often. I'm going to try to sell fry to them cheaper than what they're getting them for...kind of get my foot in the door. We'll see what happens!

By the way, I lost my poor gold nugget, I was in the process of finding some pete moss and wood and such for a pleco tank as you suggested for him, and he died in the move from tank to tank. I have learned from the mistake though!

Thanks again,
Marc

Update on these little guys...the biggest one jumped ship and I found him dried up on my carpet...it was the first fish I ever lost from jumping out (I bought a versa-top right after). But I still have an adult male and female pair. I've noticed for the past couple days my male "fanning" a little nook underneath the wood I have in there. SO, I think that some fry may be in the midst of hatching...here is a vid...it's dark because I didn't want to spook them, but near the end of the vid I got it in focus and you can see him fanning. Is this what I think it is? Any suggestions on what to do with the fry and all that? Thanks!

Marc

Ok, well I'll be keeping an eye on him...if there are fry I'll pull the female and let him take care of them. Thanks for the finger crossing! And I hope both of ours spawn soon! Do you keep albino bristlenose?

Update - Just had my first spawn! There are a bunch of eggs attached to the top of a small tunnel in my driftwood. I removed the female and did a water change with pre-treated water.

I Have a couple questions.

Should I keep feeding the male while he aerates and tends to the eggs? And what should a feed when the little fellas hatch?

This is my first spawn with any fish, so I'm pretty excited!
