Bought myself a gold nugget today.
It should be a L 81.

Bought it to keep the juvie tank going once the juvie mikula are gone.
I also think a pleco is one of the best fish to keep with juvies.

To determine if it is male or female is almost as hard as to breed them.

Would like to know though

Thanks Becca.

Got it from a malawi keeper.
He was tired of it only wanted 20 euro for it.
It was a 5 minut drive for me.

Today was a good day.......lol.

I was looking longingly at those myself today in my lfs but at £35 each, they were a bit steep, besides which they were quite small. I think they had a different L number to yours as well.

Goldies are one of my fav, had one for 6 years ,paid $40 US back in 2001, my big male Burundi bit him int he head, they come from Brazil, softer water, but they will adapt, which yours alreadsy have coming from a Malawi tank. Good Luck. I can't recall if the females are more plump and wider than the male.

It seems you can see the difference by the head shape.

Females body is a bit wider and round, males a bit thinner and triagnular, unless the males are overfed, then harder to go by body shape.

Pectoral fins will be a bit thicker on males, and have more odontodes.

female head will be a bit narrower.

As far as breeding goes, very rare, though Vires claims to have done it multiple times.

I'm not so good with Baryancistrus, i'm a Hypancistrus guy.
What size is it?
if less than 5 inches, it would be unknown at this point.
they get over 8 inches as adults.

Looks female to me from the top, but again if small could be a young male which would not be able to sex.
