Hey guys, I know its going to be very difficult to I.D a pleco without a picture, but lets see how good I can describe these guys! :) I messed up big time not taking a quick pic of them. The store had 4 of them and said that they were going to stop being imported cause of the number left in the wild and that they were going to go up in price by like 3 to 4x in the next month!! Now I know you can't believe have the stuff you hear, and thats why before I purchased a couple, I wanted to see if any of you guys know anything about it if we could figure which one it is lol

Ok, first the guy called them Red Banded pleco, it was all like a very nice jet black and had a stripe of like a dark orange almost red line along the top of the dorsal fin, and had the same color line running like horizontal on top of the caudal fine, and I cant remember if it they had any color to there pelvic fins. Any idea guys??? Tr6??

Guy was asking $60 bucks for them, they were all about 3".

Thanks

Jim I'm telling you I was excited to get back and asked to see if I should make the purchase sometime this weekend and I completely forgot to get the L-num. It was written down on the sheet and everything!!! Tomorrow I will call and ask and post it up real quick to see what you guys think.

Not a whole lot to go on.
its like asking if you should get this striped fish you seen for sale.

Not alot of plecos have any color, so that limits it.

L24 flame.
L25 scarlet.
though neither are jet black, they are darker when young, at about 3 inches, they get about 12 inches.

40-50 is about right for 3 inches.

Only other fish i can think of is the 3 beacon pleco
L 91.
sometimes the 3 beacon spots on the dorsal and tail fin are actually a single red line.
its black with the red spots or red line.
gets about 10 inches, price is about same 25-40 for a 3 inch fish.

none of the 3 are in danger of not being imported.

Do a google search on those 3 L numbers i gave you.
I don't know all the L numbers, but i'm pretty sure those are the only 3 they can be.

lol Thanks Tr, I think you might have hit right on the nose!!! I looked at the L-91 and it looked very similar. Very close to it! Now I might of just missed the spots but the coloration look almost exact but I really don't remember seeing any spots on them. I left thinking the were just like a flat black. So now of these are close to being in danger? Guess his business is slow lol Thanks like always for the helpful advice guys.

Tr he had some nice plecos here
Goldies
The L91 I guess- He called them red banded
royals
mangos
galaxy

and some called Blue phantom!?! lol I never heard the name, you have nay idea which these could be?

He also had some False Zebra's, he admitted they were not wild right away. These worth spending any cash on?

L24, L25 worth about 200 if at 10 inches.
L91 at 10 inches, maybe 75.

none of those you listed are really worth much unless they are big, so again, i can't tell you if something is worth picking up unless you tell me a price.

Is a lamborghini worth getting?

depends on the price.

so unless you give me a name/L number and a price, can't tell you if something is worth picking up.
none that you listed are in danger of not being available, though they do look cool.

yes, blue phantom is related to the green phantom/lemon spot pleco.

good looking fish, gets about 7 inches, not too hard to find.
the blue phantom is less common then the green though.

6 inch is worth about $40-50.

Ya he had some green phantoms also, and had sold out the blue ones. I think the price on them was 50 and they were 5 inches.

One more question for the night lol What do you think about the false zebras?? Are they good for about $50 bucks? They were around 3 inches.

this is a picture of lemon spot pleco (L200) hemiancistrus.
I can't recall the blue spot pleco number.

anyway, imagine this fish with bluish spots, and a dark colored fish.
lemon spot is light colored yellowish/green with yellow spots.
blue phantom is kind of a grayish brown with blue spots.

not sure what you mean about "false zebra"
no such fish.

maybe a chocolate zebra.
worth about 19 bucks.

again, without a L number name I can't tell you.
people just make up names, and they don't tell you anything about what they are.

A L number is the only way.
people can put a fake trade name on anything.

So without a L number, or at least a picture, a made up catch name is useless.

yeah, not a bad looking fish.
I prefer hypancistrus, but there are some other types of good looking species.

Sunshine/goldy, scarlets/flames, and the phantoms.

Out of all you listed, Goldy is worth the most, then the blue phantom.
the galaxy/vampire pleco is fairly popular, big black with white spots.

all good looking, but nothing you can't find easily.
