I was doing a tank clean this morning when my largest male..I think.. Calvus bit me, OUCH. the little suckers have a pretty good bite for the size, about 3 inches. guess I'll leave his little cave alone while cleaning from now on.
here he is moments after the assault.Image

I feel your pain - my "Nsumbu black" calvus male would often attack my hand, especially after they had spawned. Actually drew blood once. Doesn't half make you jump if you are not expecting it!

With breeding altos, I have been bit too many times to count

If nobody is spawning or guarding a shell, they are very shy. IMO, that could be an indication of something going on

Beautiful calvus. Well fed too

Russ

They all look great. This one is definitely guarding a small cichlid stone....and it did draw blood. The BCWPs will have their own 75 gal bow front in December. The Kilesas are still digging pits and dancing about. 2 males for sure

Have to agree with Backtofront, it scares me more than anything. I have been moving some rocks and have been attached. Had no clue a fish was by the rock. Never had them draw blood I think that would hurt.

If you catch him and gently bit one of his fins, I heard they are smart enough to know what that means and won't bite you anymore

Pinching doesn't work
