I thought they were too young to do it but my Orange fins appear to have laid claim to a shell and have laid eggs. The female is wedged in the opening and the male is driving all the other fish away. :D :D Can't wait for a hatching I have a second fry tank ready to go...how long till hatching? I will try to get pics but they are behind some rocks so it will be a challenge. I hope the Congo calvus from Razzo are right behind the comps ....I want a big tank of those yellow head Calvus, say a 125 or so.Image :bananna :bravo

I also had a whole herd of baby cyps born yesterday....about 50! here are a few

Here is the male Orange fin....well,,, part of him

6 mamas 50 some babies...very hard to count......most likley about 10% will die before an inch. if they make an inch they should become adults. When these get over an inch I'll put a message in the for sale section. These are Kigoma "Jumbo"cyps. I now have 2 colonies of 20 and these babies. If they do not sell the fronts just love the little ones.

Great to see Ya back Razz!! I have a freaking Cloud of orange fin fry....no way to count the itty bitty little guys....they stay right near the shell they hatched in. the fronts do not seen interested in the fry at this point. A little while ago 2 of the Congo Calvus turned utterly black...any thoughts on a cause? they have returned to normal color but will not be on the same side of the tank without sparring.

Competition most likely. Dark mode is my favorite color mode on them. Altos will spare and usually does not turn fatal. If it gets to the point where one does not eat, that is one of your signs to remove a fish. You tank is very large for an alto group, I should hope it is big enough for two males to get away from each other. Breaking up "line of sight" could help too.

Congrats on the orange fin fry! Now the "fun" begins :)

I'm not complaining but it seems everything is breeding just as early as possible. by the books I've read these Orange fins should not breed for another .5" or most of a year. I'm deathly afraid I'll be moving next month with fronts holding eggs or tumbling eggs on a 68 mile drive in the hills to the new house.
