is there a quieter air pump out there than a whisper? i like the smaller ones. they are pretty quiet but the 60+ gallon ones are very noisy in my opinion. anyone know of a better option?

All I deal with is very large air pumps, so I can't really help you.

I also have a whisper but if you have a petco near you I would check there they sell a quiet air pump made by petco brand belive it our not its actually pretty. Quiet the come in 4 outputs 3 out puts and 2 outputs . I too will soon be going to a large air pump / linear air pump but it's kind of hard to find a quiet air pump the bigger you get though they do make some here's the link

Not cheap, but these are said to be extremely high quality and extremely quiet. http://www.kensfish.com/product1.html

Keep in mind the manifold is an add on so be sure to pay the extra $10 for it if you go for it. I was very close to getting one of these a couple years ago, but I went with a larger Airpod simply because of the volume of water I needed to move (1000 gallons or so).

thanks me. that's a lot more than i was planning to spend on an air pump, but this whisper is driving me crazy so i may just brake down and but one before too long.

Talk to Ken at Kensfish and ask him how the noise compares to the pump you have. Since it is a larger pump things could be relative, but I am pretty sure these are the silent pumps we all dream of. I just don't want to put you out some extra dollars and be wrong about the Decibels of this pump vs your old whisper.

no problem. I am a fan of quiet appliances. I spent allot of time hunting down extremely silent fans for my computer. Noiseblockers in case you're interested ;) Made in Germany, a bit pricey, but even at full speed the little noise that can be heard is soft and actually pleasing to the ear somehow. Plus they have an extremely long bearing life so you actually save money over time.
