Just another worry I have run into one of my sponge filters has began to grow mini snails and it is worrying me they are even growing on my pots In the tank!I wasn't sure if this would mess with the levels in the tank or bad for my fry but I want them OUT ! They look ugly even though they are still small and reproducing like crazy ! GAHHH! I like my tanks crystal clear ! And these are worrying me what if they are bad for the fry!?! I know I may be worrying about nothing at all but I want to be sure and I just don't like seeing them ! AT ALL !

Grab some half decent size clown loaches they will take care of the problem quick and they wont eat your fry!! Like tr6 said assasin snails are good too. about 5 years ago i had snails and the clown loaches i bought took care of them quick literally 3 days and they were all gone.

get a group of loaches. my clown loaches are much more active in the pursuit of snails than my yoyo's, zebras, and kuhlis and prettiest too in my opinion. get at least 3 or they will hide all the time and only come out at night. the more the better though. they run around in a herd and are very fun to watch.

Hmm deffintlly will do! Should I get rid of my Cory cats then they're my bottom feeders but I don't really care for them. This may be a dumb question but these loaches won't mess with my fry will they ? Or any of my tank levels can't afford any more problems . My fry is just over an inch and I have 9 in a 55 gallon I think the only clown loaches they have at my LFS are 2-3inches just making sure I know they're not aggressive. Also don't have very many places for them to hide PVC and some pots but so far only one sponge filter is growing the snails . Thanks again guys learning a lot . Oh yea this morning my bottom 55 cracked leaking through to the basment foundation I will have pictures later thanks for the help Plese let me know thanks !!

clowns are really mellow fish. sometimes they fight with each other or other loaches but that's it. and cichlids pretty much ignore them in my tanks. the only thing to worry about might be your fronts eating them once they get bigger. get the biggest loaches you can. they are great bottom feeders.....better than coreys at getting the food that falls between the gravel and they will take care of your snail problem. long term they will be better for your tank cause they get much bigger than coreys and hopefully wont be front food. they will also add a nice splash of color to your tank. they have a lot of personality too. you will love them. they cane be prone to ich and if you have to medicate them only dose at half strength or you will kill them. well worth the risk though. ich is easy enough to cure if you catch it early. :luck

In all the years I have raised fish I have never had snails. Well my luck ran out. About 9 months ago I bought two 55 gallon tanks from a guy who is a good fish guy. He sold me a stand that held one 55 on top the other on the bottom. The one tank he left the gravel sand shell looking stuff in the tank. He had the tanks down for several weeks in his garage before I bought them. I was a couple more weeks before I set them up. Well 9 months later I ended up with snails. I was shocked as one day not there the next they appear to be everywhere. I bought 4 clown loaches as I remember several of you stating they were the best. In three days they have cleaned up the tank. I was surprised it even appears the shells of the snails are gone. Do they eat those to? I have never had loaches never had the need, but they are a fun fish. I will for sure keep them around.

snails are very resilient. my gf gave me a ten gallon tank that had been up in her attic for close to a year. filled it up and within a few days had dozens of pond snails. 1 assassin snail knocked them out for good.
