The controller or the heater? I use WON controllers for my 500watt titanium heaters. Have not had an issue yet.
It was the controllers - the LFS were nice enough to give me new WON replacement heaters but this happened 3 times for me. Right now I am using Hydor Theos which are decent. I am planning on purchasing the stealths from now on in the future if the ones I have crap out.

I've tried sooo many brands & styles b/c I've had some rather sad incidents with bad heaters & have lost (boiled) a tank of fish with them on more than one occassion, so now I've used Ebo Jager for a few years exclusively & have had no problems at all.

I am still using my WON bros. controllers and 500 watt titanium heaters. I burned a heater but that was my fault for not watching the water level on a 40% water change. John said he would replace it but I figure its my fault so I wont be returning it. I will just order another.

I'm surprised nobody is using the hydor inline heater .I've had one on my 90g fpr a year and it's been rock steady at 77.8.Fishes can't brake it because it's not in the tank, would definitely recommend it.I also use the visitherm stealth. It's a good heater, but when it gets cold in my basement it does'nt hold the temp, the hydor however is always steady.

I use marineland heaters or Ebo Jager heaters. I have had a few of the Ebo Jager heaters stop working, but they where old. I also don't have large heaters in my tanks, so it makes it hard to over heat and I have two so if one stops the other should be strong enough to not get cool enough to kill my fish.

Funny you mention the Hydor Inline Heater. I have been looking into changing over to them myself. Glad to hear some input on them. Thanks!

Hey guys, quick question. Do you think two 300W heaters would be adequate to keep my 220 gallon warm enough in the long Minnesota winters? We generally keep the house at 69-70 in the winter. You think I will have enough juice, or should I get another? I don't care how many I need as they will be out of site in my sump. Thanks.

Scott

most people say 3 to 5x.
i for years only use about 2x.

so for my 125 gallon tanks i usually run a single 250 or 300 watter.
For your tank, i myself would run the two 300w heaters (600w total or about 3x).
Many people would say run 3 to 5x or about 600-1100w, so 3 heaters would be bout right for many.

I use one Rena 300w in my 5' tank. My last heaters (a Juwel and something else) started playing up fortunately taking the temp down rather than up and I spotted it in time. Rena seem to be well made, indestructible and with a nice warning light system, although a little more pricey, but compared to the fish its nothing.

[quote="tr6";p="908"]I don't use glass heaters at all.
just stainless steel or titanium./quote]

Hey TR6, which titanium heaters do you recommend? I am currently using one 300watt rena smart heater in my 110, It is working fairly well but I was going to either throw another of the same, or something better in. I get a fairly good deal on the Rena's where I am at about $40. Any body have bad experience with the smart heaters? I have heard the old rena glass ones have had problems.. but I guess all can.

Totally off topic, but my father and I have both had Triumph spitfires, and he currently has a TR4A. Everytime I walk by a TR6 I have to get right up and peak inside, and dream :)

This is the best way to do it...No way to boil your fish with this method
