The snails are annoying and quite a nuisance at most. I have them in some of tanks down at the shop and, some of my tanks do not have them. I assume some of the cichlids that I keep are snail eaters. The only way to get rid of them is to collect them as you see them.

Clown loaches will eat them. I had them in a tank and they drove me crazy. Three clowns took care of the problem. :D :D :D

+1 on the clown loaches. they're great snail eaters. they add a nice splash of color to your tank as well. just make sure they're big enough not to be eaten by your fronts. they'd be an expensive snack. assassin snails work too. :luck

I had trumpet snails in my tank. They drove me crazy - not that they did any harm, in fact they were probably good for getting rid of waste food etc, but I didn't want them. To get rid of them, I had to do a complete strip down and I mean complete. I even removed the 3D background, (destroying it in the process). Don't forget the filter as they tend to gather in there. I boiled the media and started the whole tank from scratch. It worked though, I am now snail free.
