Hello everyone,
I just found this site today & joined up so I am a new member. I am looking forward to reading the posts everyone has put up :)

I recently bought a colony of 5 Burundi frontosa, 4 females 8-13 inches & 1 male at 15 inches.
I have never kept frontosa before so I am hoping someone can help me out with some advice on how to setup their tank so I can keep them breeding.

They are in a 6.5 foot tank.

Should I have a fast or slow flowing pump in their tank?

Should I have more then one cave or only one for the male?

Is it best to have substrate or no substrate?

Any other things I should know?

Any advice is most appreciated.

Thankyou Asotnorf.

Welcome and congrats on your buy. If you have a 125 a couple aqua clear 110 or 70s would be great I have a 125 it's not set up but I have a fluval fx5 for is which is a lot of filtration but the tank will stay way cleaner. I have a fluval c4 on a 50 gallon and when I still had my fish they didn't mind it. I have always used sand as my substrate so does the majority of people here. I had multiple caves in my 50 you want places that not only the male can hide but also the females can when the male is picking on them. Do 25-50 percent water changes every week a clean tank is a happy fish keepmthe water temp around 74-78 degrees. Hope this helps you will learn a lot here be I've me I have and I have only been into fronts for 3 years. Good luck

welcome. sounds like you have a great sized tank already. you don't really need any current in your tank, just some surface agitation to oxygenate the water. 2 filters are better than one, in case one fails the other will be running and your fish will be fine. your male to female ratio is great. you could add 3 or 4 more females if you would like. if you do be sure you only buy burundi fronts to avoid cross breeding/hybrids. just make sure they are not too small to get bullied. fronts appreciate a sand bottomed tank. pool filter sand is cheap and works and looks great. it is usually tan in color. white or black sand are a little more pricey but are also good options. hope this helps. feel free to ask more questions. we are happy to help.

Thankyou for the welcome & advice guys, Much appreciated
I am finding a lot of useful information on here :) .

I do intend to add a few more females to the colony at a later date once these fish settle & i have set up their tank correctly.

I will post up some pics when i am finished.
