Let me introduce myself and say that i am new to the freshwater aquarium hobby. I have kept reef tanks my whole life but thought that it would be neat to expand a little and try my hand at some freshwater fish, and of course, the Frontosa Cichlids caught my eye... What a better fish for this size tank? We are currently redoing the room in our house that i will be putting the tank in and i will continue to take pics untill this build is complete! I am doing an inwall installation and thus, going to be putting a counter, "Bar" in front of this tank.... The tank is 9' long....so should make an interesting look with a bar infront..... I will be putting Mpimbwe fronts in there from emsquared19.....Wondering if i should keep it strictly a front tank or if i should add some other fish in there, calvus, comps, synodontis??? Also like the look of clown loach!!! Help on this build will be well appreciated....Chris

I can't wait to see how this turns out! That is going to be a great looking bar. I've tried all different sorts of bottom feeders in my tank but have stuck with clown loaches as well. They do a wonderful job at cleaning up leftovers and don't seem to interfere with breeding...Mine hide all the time so you rarely see them...Keep us posted...

calvus comps and clown loaches are great. synos can interfere with breeding so are not recommended if you plan to breed. drift wood will leach ph from your water. africans need high ph so it is not recommended.

We will see, at work we get tons and tons of the styrofoam everyone is using for the 3D aquarium backgrounds... We just throw it away.. I am going to start stock piling it and attempt to do a 3D "Cave" Like background in the aquarium.. Should be able to make something work, its just going to have to be pieced in!!! Something different than the black background that is on the tank now!!!

you can def. add comps and calvus with the fronts. If you do though grow them out a bit because they are very slow growers. I had 3 in with my loan front for the moment and i put them in when they were an inch and they are still an inch 2 months later. my front dont mess with them and nor they him.

Im starting to have a hard time believeing that i am going to like putting this fish in this tank... Why are there so many fish that cannot go in with them vs being able to... If its for breeding, i dont care about breeding them.....does this open up my possibilities of adding different fish into the aquarium... I would like some syno catfish if at all possible!! Someone please let me know where there is a list of acceptable fish.....thanks in advance
